About the fund
The government’s 2022 Budget provided $13.646 million over four years towards a Dawn Raids Package initiative. This initiative comprises four initiatives to be led by the Ministry for Pacific Peoples and Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture & Heritage. This initiative has been designed to enhance wellbeing for Pacific communities that were impacted by the Dawn Raids.
Outcomes include:
- A community-led healing and restorative process that will enable Pacific peoples impacted by the events of the Dawn Raids to tell their own stories and in their own ways.
- Enhanced education outcomes through increased access to historical information and resources (including Pacific languages) that can be used to support teaching and learning about Pacific histories both in formal education settings and in community settings.
- Improved social cohesion by enabling greater public understanding of the events of the Dawn Raids, the underpinning human rights frameworks, and the lasting intergenerational impacts on Pacific communities.
