Ed Bats @ Hutch

Sour Ambulance requires little explanation or introduction. The works speak loudly enough for themselves. Instead, we simply invite you to come along, experience the exhibition in person and allow yourself to become immersed in this incredible new body of work by the talented and elusive Ed Bats.

Ed Bats, Lucky Charm, 2026. Acrylic, aerosol on poly cotton. 1900 × 1000mm. Courtesy the artist and Hutch.

Spray paint, glossy acrylic and timber framework come together across the six works that make up Sour Ambulance. There is a sense of organised chaos running throughout, a strange harmony between order and unease, precision and spontaneity.

With titles such as Racoon Protocol and Tabouli Bronchitis, humour is never far from the surface and there is something wonderfully playful about the works; an instinctive joy in colour, absurdity and making, balanced by a feeling that something slightly more unruly might be happening underneath.

The longer you look, the more there is to find. Your eye is pulled further and further into the layers of each piece, sending you down strange and unexpected paths of thought with no destination…

Enjoy the ride.
