An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Librarian at the E H McCormick Research Library, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. This is the most significant art library in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Librarian is responsible for the management and development of the published collections within the E H McCormick Research Library and ensures this collection is discoverable and accessible to all library users.

The Librarian is also responsible for the delivery of our efficient and effective reference service, both in person and online, by responding to research enquiries and keeping up to date with best practice content delivery methods. This role also contributes to the research and promotion of the Library and Archive collections through the exhibition, display, and interpretation of the collections for the benefit of the Gallery’s diverse audiences.

This is a full-time, 12-month position, 40 hours per week. Due to the nature of the role, there may be some evening and weekend work required.

We are seeking candidates who — 

As an experienced librarian, you will have a passion for research and New Zealand art histories, as well as a strong belief in the importance of professional library services and outstanding cataloguing skills. You will have excellent attention to detail and collection care, strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills, and be committed to increasing public access to and knowledge of our library and its collections.

To apply for the Librarian, Discovery and Access position, you will have:

  • A post-graduate qualification in Information Management, Library Studies or related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in cataloguing, preferably in an art museum context
  • Excellent research skills and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of New Zealand art histories
  • Proficiency in Sierra cataloguing software is an added advantage

The Librarian will work closely with the Research Library and Archives Manager to develop and enhance the published collection in order to make it accessible to our users.
