This body of work delves into Linda’s experience as a first-generation New Zealand-born Samoan raised in Tāmaki Makaurau. Through a unique reinterpretation of traditional Samoan motifs and the use of found and repurposed materials from Aotearoa, she challenges conventions of identity, value, and cultural legacy. Borne and Bred speaks to the resilience and labour of Pasifika communities and honours the tireless efforts of migrant parents and grandparents who sought better futures for their families.
Since launching her visual arts career in 2021 with the virtual exhibition HALF, Linda has made a significant impact on the contemporary Pacific arts landscape. From curating and self-publishing Tusiata o le Tala o le Vavau and A Niu Dawn, to having her work acquired by Te Papa Tongarewa, Linda’s practice continues to amplify Pasifika voices and stories across Aotearoa.
