Sam Mitchell presents a watercolour extravaganza to coincide with the gallery’s return to the 2025 Aotearoa Art Fair.

Mitchell’s water colours have become an integral and ongoing part of her overall artistic practice since her art school days at Elam in the 90’s when she began exploring sustainable alternatives to traditional materials in the form of discarded book pages. She haunts libraries, junk shops, car boot sales and school fairs for these treasures and responds to the world around her.

Imagery is sourced from politics, pop culture, history and current events as well as her own domestic and artistic life.  She is an avid consumer of all – a ferocious reader and a long-time listener to podcasts as she works in her studio.  She scours the internet for imagery to support her research and creates new works that are often humorous and acerbic takes on how she views the world.
