Four nationally recognised intaglio printmakers bring together their individual explorations of environments, atmosphere and language. The exhibition incorporates etching, drypoint, mezzotint, drawing, artist books, photopolymer intaglio and silverpoint. Individually, the artists’ works are distinctive. Collectively, they combine to form a study on drawing, mark-making and process.
Intaglio printmaking encompasses marks, tones and lines—islands of ink in a space, a texture or embossed area that breaks the ‘silence’ of the paper. The artworks are often created in a very manual way, using tools to put marks into metal or plastic plate. The process is slow, sometimes like a silent meditation in itself.
