We Come From The Earth

24 February – 18 August 2024
John Bevan Ford, Nga Maunga Toa, Taranaki Sunset (detail), Collection of Te Manawa Museums Trust

Bringing together natural materials alongside painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and weaving, We come from the Earth explores our relationship with the environment with works from the Te Manawa collection.

While these works were made decades ago, they still resonate today as we grapple with issues like climate change, sustainability and customary land rights. Together, they remind us that our relationship with the earth is a complex one that we need to keep revisiting.

The artists in We come from the Earth are Andrew Drummond, Christine Hellyar, Chris Booth, Colin McCahon, John Bevan Ford (Ngāti Raukawa Ki Kapiti), Len Castle, Marilynn Webb (Ngāpuhi, Te Roroa and Ngāti Kahu), Warren Viscoe, Wayne Barrar and Ilse von Randow.
